Traffic Regulations in Denmark
A valid national driver's license (including Latin letters) or an international drivers license is accepted in Denmark. Furthermore, it must be clearly indicated for which kinds of vehicles the driver's license is issued. Driving with the lights on is compulsory, also during the day. It is not allowed to speak in a hand-held mobile phone while driving in Denmark. At case of alcohol consumption the allowed limit when driving is 0,5 per thousand, corresponding with two drinks for an average person.
In Denmark the following four basic speed limits for private cars are used:
50 km./hour within city limits (White sign with a black town silhouette) 80 km./hour on regular roads outside city limits 130 km/hour on motorways 90 km./hour on main roads In Denmark we drive on the right side of the street, which means that overtaking is always to the left.
As a main rule parking and stopping is allowed at the right side of the street, but prohibited on main roads and motorways. In addition parking is prohibited:
At full-drawn centrelines, where the distance between the line and the car is less than 3 metres.
Less than 5 metres from a pedestrian crossing or the end of a bicycle path, and less than 10 metres from an intersection. On bicycle paths and pedestrian crossings At bus stops, where the kerb is painted in yellow or if that is not the case, within 12 metres of a bus stop sign. Payment is often required, when parking within the city limit.
